A well-packed cleaning caddy is the difference between a smooth job and ten trips back to the car. Professional house cleaners carry the same core kit to every home, organized so they can grab the right product without thinking. This guide covers what to put in a pro cleaning caddy, what to keep in the car, how to organize it by job type, and the chemical safety rules every cleaner should follow.

Start with what the job needs

Before you pack, check the job details in the CleansterPro app. Some clients choose and pay for “Bring your cleaning supplies”, and some supply their own products. If the client pays for supplies, bring at least:

  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Extra-strength cleaner
  • Glass or window cleaner
  • Paper towels
  • Rubber gloves
  • Sponges
  • Cleaning cloths

A vacuum, mop and broom aren’t part of the supplies the client pays for, so check what’s in the home. If the client supplies their own products, use those, and always follow any customized checklist. See do you bring your own cleaning supplies and equipment e what needs to be cleaned.

The pro cleaning caddy supplies list

Sprays and liquids

  • All-purpose cleaner for most hard surfaces
  • Extra-strength cleaner or degreaser for stovetops, range hoods and greasy cabinets
  • Glass cleaner for mirrors, glass shower doors and appliance glass
  • Bathroom cleaner for soap scum and hard-water spots
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • A gentle, pH-neutral cleaner for stone counters and sealed wood

Eco-friendly products are a good default when they do the job. Label every bottle clearly, including any you refill.

Cloths, pads and brushes

  • Microfiber cloths in color codes, for example yellow for kitchens, blue for glass, pink for bathrooms and a separate color for toilets
  • Non-scratch scrub pads and sponges
  • A grout brush and an old toothbrush for detail work
  • A toilet brush (or check that the home has one)
  • A plastic scraper for glass cooktops and stuck-on residue
  • A duster with an extension handle for fans and high shelves

Small tools and extras

  • Rubber gloves, plus disposable gloves for toilets
  • Trash bags in two sizes
  • Paper towels
  • A squeegee for showers and glass
  • Shoe covers for homes where shoes come off
  • A small flashlight for under sinks, mattress checks and dark corners
  • A pen and sticky notes for client messages

What stays in the car

  • Back-up bottles of your main products
  • Extra clean microfiber cloths and a bag for used ones
  • A vacuum and mop, if you bring your own equipment
  • A step stool
  • A first-aid kit and drinking water

Organize your caddy for speed

  • Same place, every time. Keep each product in the same slot so you can grab it without looking.
  • Front is for what you use most. All-purpose cleaner and cloths go in the easiest spots.
  • Separate clean and used. Keep a mesh bag clipped to the caddy for used cloths.
  • Bathroom tools stay in the bathroom kit. Never carry the toilet brush or bathroom cloths into the kitchen.
  • Restock after every job, not before the next one. You’ll never arrive short.

Pack by job type

  • Standard home clean: the core caddy plus your duster and squeegee.
  • Deep clean: add degreaser, grout brush, detail brushes, extra cloths and a step stool for fans and door frames.
  • Move-out clean: add extra trash bags, more cloths, and products for inside cabinets and appliances.
  • Short-term rental turnover: add a flashlight for mattress checks and keep restock items organized. See our Airbnb turnover cleaning tips for cleaners.

Chemical safety: rules every cleaner should follow

  • Never mix products. Bleach mixed with ammonia or with acids such as vinegar or some toilet cleaners can release dangerous gases. Use one product, rinse, then use another.
  • Read the label. Follow dilution, dwell time and surface instructions, and check the safety warnings.
  • Ventilate. Open a window or turn on the exhaust fan, especially in small bathrooms.
  • Wear gloves and eye protection when using strong products or spraying overhead.
  • Spray the cloth, not the surface, near electronics, and to limit overspray.
  • Keep the original labels on bottles. If you decant, label the new bottle with the product name.
  • Test first on a hidden spot when you’re unsure about a surface, such as natural stone or a delicate finish.
  • Store safely. Keep products upright, capped and out of reach of children and pets in the home.
  • Know when to stop. Mold removal, deep stain removal and pest treatment aren’t part of the services. Report them to the client instead.

Clean your tools too

Dirty cloths spread dirt. Wash microfiber cloths after each job in warm water without fabric softener, and air dry or tumble dry on low. Rinse brushes and let them dry, and wipe down your caddy each week.
